Digital Minimalism: Keep It In Your Pants. 📵

I went one year without social media and it was awesome. I got more done, went out more, traveled, made more money, and saw amazing things through my own eyes (without having a phone in front of my face). I was more present and mindful, and no longer bombarded by other people’s negativity or fishing for attention (don’t kill my vibe).

I also read more, a lot more, remember books? I read two on this very topic; Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport and Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now by Jaron Lanier.

I don’t want to write a long thing about this, so to sum it up; social media platforms are designed to be addictive and manipulate your behavior. They’re breeding grounds for negativity and misinformation. They make people stupid and bring out the worst in people. They’re an unproductive waste of time and distract us from living life in the moment… They’re bad for our health.

I can’t help but notice so many people at different places, friends and couples on dates, not even looking at each other, just playing on their phones… How sad is that?

Recently, I did get back online, but in a very limited capacity — only one platform and I’m not “liking,” commenting, or following anyone (just text me), and I get an alert if I spend more than a few minutes a day on it.

My advice; treat your phone like your D🍆 — don’t play with it too much, and try not to take it out in public.
